For today’s lesson the brief was to create a short scene of a character being followed, however we only had an hour’s lesson to do so.
I worked with Esther and Yasmine. Yasmine operated the camera whilst Esther and I were the characters .Due to the lack of time we thought of one idea and went with it. The idea was to have one character being followed and eventually attacked at the end of the scene. When it came to planning Esther created the storyboard using a number of shots such as close ups and long shots whilst I labelled the shots and Yasmine set up the camera, I felt this was good time management and being able to share the work load is vital when you do not have long to complete a task.
When it came to filming; the storyboard played a huge part in keeping things organised as we had no time to rethink ideas we went with what we had drawn. In some sense this can be seen as a good thing because the storyboard is the foundation for the film; however it can also be seen as a negative thing because sometimes a few minor changes can make a big difference to improving a scene. Yasmine directed both Esther and I well and I believe she played a good role as director and having her stern directions was key when it came to us completing the scene.
Although we completed the filming we did face a few a problems, when it came to finding a location, we couldn’t decide the best place to film the scene and wasted a good 5 minutes trying to figure out the best place to shoot, in the end we shot outside the classroom although other class members were filming in this area. Filling in the continuity sheets was another issue for us as we were so rushed for time, we tried our best to keep filling them in between filming of the shots, but as time started to run out we had to leave the continuity sheets and film the remaining shots and fill out the sheet afterwards, this can be a disadvantage if not every scene is remembered and written down. Overall it was a constructive task which I personally felt helped me see what can be produced in a short amount of time and help emphasise the importance of planning and having a clear structure before filming.
A well constructed evaluation Sharon, well done. You have referred back to the task giving specific examples, highlighting the key areas.
ReplyDeleteIn future remember to include a personal objective for the task, focussing on developing practical skills.
